Raventos House: Modernist Residence with Coastal Views in Costa Brava
The modernist residence is situated amidst the stunning scenery of Costa Brava and is perched atop a rocky outcrop, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The upper floor of the house has a semi-circular design featuring concrete cantilevering volumes with arches intricately carved into them, which can be seen from the road as a striking silhouette.
Inside the house, the arches are replicated in a series of vaulted ceilings that dominate the main living space. These vaults are constructed from reinforced concrete and rest on substantial concrete beams, offering transversal views of the area. The succession of vaults comprises three separate seating areas and a dining space, all arranged to face walls of glass and clerestory windows that perfectly frame the stunning coastal views.
The lower level of the house comprises seven bedrooms, which seem to blend seamlessly into the earth thanks to the clever use of stone on the façade. The architect has deliberately used stone to camouflage the bedrooms and emphasize the level above. Each bedroom features sliding glass doors that are framed by geometric cutouts into the thick stone exterior wall, which open onto the breathtaking sea views.

About Antonio Bonet
Antonio Bonet i Castellana was a Spanish architect from Catalonia. He began his career with Josep Lluís Sert and Josep Torres Clavé and was a member of the GATCPAC. In 1936 he joined the atelier of Le Corbusier in Paris before going to Argentina and Uruguay.
He is best remembered as one of the designers of the “BKF” Butterfly chair, as part of the Austral Group, in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1938, along with partners Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy.
From 1971 through 1975, his studio in Barcelona Spain was run by the Head of Studio, Miguel Cervantes Martinez Brocca, an Uruguayan Architect who then became head of the Central office of Bellas Artes in Spain.
