Chinese Architecture

Chinese Architecture follows contemporary building in mainland China alongside its long tradition of courtyards, timber frames and gardens. ArchEyes coverage includes Vector Architects’ Alila Yangshuo hotel, built around a former sugar mill, Wutopia Lab’s projects in Shanghai and Suzhou, LUO Studio’s timber pavilions, IAPA’s courtyard hotel in Xi’an and Snøhetta’s Shanghai Grand Opera House. Many of these works reinterpret vernacular materials, rural settlements and landscape traditions for new cultural, residential and hospitality programs.
