Fiberglass

Fiberglass, also known as glass-reinforced plastic or GRP, is a composite material made from fine glass fibers embedded in a polymer resin. In architecture, it gained prominence during the mid-twentieth century for its lightness, strength, weather resistance, and capacity to be molded into curvilinear forms that are difficult to achieve in traditional materials. Architects and designers have used it for prefabricated shells, sculptural facades, pavilions, cladding panels, and furniture. Iconic examples include Matti Suuronen’s Futuro House, which demonstrated the material’s potential for portable, mass-produced living units.
