Chukum

Chukum, or chukum resina, is a construction material originating from Mayan traditions, made from the bark of the Havardia albicans tree, also known as the chukum tree, indigenous to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The bark is ground and mixed with water to create a resin, which is subsequently combined with limestone and water to form a robust, waterproof plaster. Characterized by its natural color spectrum ranging from light beige to deep grey, chukum lends a unique, smooth finish to architectural structures.
