Kiyonori Kikutake (1928-2011) was a Japanese architect and one of the founders of the Metabolist movement. Kikutake’s work focused on applying Metabolist principles, such as modularity, flexibility, and organic growth, in designing buildings and cities. He is best known for his Marine City project, a proposal for a futuristic megastructure in Tokyo Bay, exhibited at the World Design Conference in Tokyo in 1960. Kikutake’s other notable works include the Sky House, a modular residence designed for an individual family, and the Miyakonojo Civic Center, a community center in Miyakonojo City, Japan. Kikutake’s work has significantly influenced Japanese architecture and urban planning.
