Work description by Louise de Belle

Ordinary Backdrops is a photographic series shot in Japan. The photographs stand for a sense of plasticity which belongs to ordinary yet unusual views of the suburban scenario. They represent a “state of things”: backdrops of everyday life, waiting for something to happen, yet being already protagonists of a careful composition.

I’m often drawn to “non-places”. There’s always an intriguing tension between regular and nonsense, ordinary and absurdity.

And that inspires me to contemplate and frame such state of things: backdrops of everyday life, waiting for something to happen, yet being already protagonists of a careful composition.
