Norman Foster

Sir Norman Robert Foster, born on June 1, 1935, is a preeminent British architect recognized for his modern, high-tech designs often featuring steel and glass. He studied architecture at Manchester University and Yale School of Architecture, and in 1967, he founded Foster + Partners, now one of the world’s leading architectural firms. Among his significant works are the Hearst Tower in New York, the Gherkin in London, the Millau Viaduct in France, the renovation of Berlin’s Reichstag building, and the “Apple Park” headquarters in California. Foster has been honored with numerous awards, including the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1999, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1990 and granted a life peerage in 1999 as Lord Foster of Thames Bank.
