Marcel Breuer

Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) was a Hungarian-born architect and designer renowned for his pioneering role in Modernism and Brutalism. A Bauhaus alumnus and teacher, he revolutionized furniture design with his tubular steel creations, including the iconic Wassily Chair, before transitioning to architecture. Breuer’s projects, characterized by innovative use of concrete and bold, sculptural forms, include landmarks such as the Whitney Museum of American Art (now the Met Breuer) and the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. His work embodies a seamless blend of functionality, material experimentation, and timeless design principles.
