Le Corbusier, born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887 – 1965), was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, and writer, one of the pioneers of modern architecture and urban planning. He is best known for his architectural works that embraced functionality, bold geometrical forms, and the innovative use of concrete, steel, and glass. Le Corbusier developed the “Five Points of Architecture” as principles for his design process, most notably exemplified in the Villa Savoye in Poissy, France. He also made significant contributions to urban planning with his “Radiant City” concept, a controversial proposal for urban environments that emphasized high-density living and the use of skyscrapers.
