Edgar J. Kaufmann was a prominent American businessman and owner of Kaufmann’s Department Store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Renowned for his patronage of modern architecture, he commissioned two of the twentieth century’s most iconic buildings: Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs, designed by Richard Neutra.
