Inspired in the Santorini Island, «Impossible Architecture» is an artistic concept of the artist, designer and artistic director of Santorini Biennale Kyriakos Papadopoulos that observed that the malady of modern urbanism is actually simple to diagnose: everything is fixed at an enormous scale.

Impossible Architecture description

Kyriakos Papadopoulos purposes actually a new intelligent urbanism that is composed of a set of four main axioms that can intend to guide the formulation of city plans and urban designs.

These axioms are:

  • Heritage: conservation of the old, production of new and living the actual,
  • Human scale that has to be differentiated from human race to race,
  • Ethics to ethics and environment to environment,
  • Technology adapted to serve the ethical elements of an existing culture and institutional integrity.

The four axioms Kyriakos Papadopoulos purposes are based all in the need of conviviality, i.e.: cities for the one and many individuals by creating places for solitude, for beautiful and intimate friendships that include the creation of families, childhoods, and neighborhoods of human scale.

The project is part of the «Kozani city cultural map» created by Kyriakos Papadopoulos at his Graphics Art Class at the ArtLab of Municipality of Kozani and part of it has been exhibited at the Historical & Paleontological Museum of Ptolemaida.
