Built with a limited budget, Hat H is a house designed by Japanese Architects Jun Igarashi for a single-family in Engaru, a residential district in Hokkaido. A small entity volume in the middle of the 5460mm × 5460mm site is built to host the house.

In this house, there were high-cost constraints. The footprint of the house is small to minimize the foundation’s work. In addition, it is possible to build a smaller VOLUME by filling the depth min. The space buried in the basement is used for bedrooms and the study space to feel protected. It also generated a close approach to the Earth.
On the periphery of the main VOLUME, a floating Veranda in cantilever is located. This cantilever was possible because it was also advantageous in cost due to the foundation placement. This veranda connects the surrounding environment and the living, dining, or kitchen room, just 2m above the ground.

About Jun Igarashi
Jun Igarashi was born in Hokkaido in 1970. He graduated from Hokkaido Central Engineering College in 1990 and worked with Ben Architects from 1991 to 1995 before establishing Jun Igarashi Architects in 1997. He has been teaching Architecture at the Hokkaido Institute of Technology since 2005 and has also taught at Tohoku University and the Nagoya Institute of Technology.
