Erik Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940) was a renowned Swedish architect and one of the most significant figures in modernist architecture. He is known for his pioneering contributions to the development of functionalist architecture, which emphasizes simplicity, efficiency, and practicality in design. Asplund’s most famous works include the Stockholm Public Library, which he designed with his collaborator, Sigurd Lewerentz. Asplund was also responsible for designing several other important buildings in Sweden, including the Skogskyrkogården cemetery in Stockholm, which is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Göteborgs Konstmuseum
