A Transformative Gallery Space for the Helsinki Mobile Museum of Modern Art

Designed with ingenuity and creative vision, the Wolfhorse Gallery is a collaborative project specifically developed for our friends at the Helsinki Mobile Museum of Modern Art. This unique structure is tailored for exhibitions and pop-up events within the bustling urban environment of Finland’s capital.

A feat of architectural innovation, the Wolfhorse’s 10 flip-up doors allow it to morph from a mysterious black box into an open and inviting pavilion in just a matter of minutes. This transformative quality engages the public, offering both intrigue and accessibility.

Internally, the gallery’s flexible design features a modular system of movable slabs, stairs, and railings. This adaptable layout ensures that the exhibition space can cater to a wide array of events and artistic expressions, promoting a rich variety of cultural happenings.

Constructed in two separate parts, each segment of the Wolfhorse is precisely scaled and designed for container transport. This thoughtful consideration ensures simple assembly and allows the gallery to bring art to diverse locations across the city.

The project was born from a close collaboration with Magnus Kvalheim, Anders Grinde, and Einar Elton, whose collective vision and expertise have shaped the Wolfhorse into a symbol of contemporary art and architecture in Helsinki. Their shared ambition to foster community engagement and celebrate creativity has resulted in a gallery space that not only hosts art but becomes a work of art itself.
