Yona Friedman

Yona Friedman was a Hungarian-born French architect and urban planner renowned for his theories on mobile and adaptable architecture. Born in 1923 and deceased in 2020, Friedman proposed the idea of “Mobile Architecture” in the 1950s, suggesting architecture should not impose certain behaviors on inhabitants but be flexible to their changing needs. His “Spatial City” concept involved a city’s infrastructure being layered, allowing for adaptable construction. His ideas have profoundly impacted architecture, art, and design, emphasizing individual autonomy in design and planning, which was revolutionary in his era.
