Lluís Casals

Lluís Casals (1954–2021) was a Barcelona-born photographer whose discerning eye defined the visual identity of Spanish architecture during its most fertile decades before the 2008 crisis. Trained at the Escola Universitària de Disseny in Barcelona, he collaborated with prominent studios such as Correa/Milá, MBM, Moneo, Ferrater, and Navarro Baldeweg, becoming an internationally respected figure. His work stood out for two key contributions: the embrace of color photography, which brought a poetic realism, epitomized in his iconic image of the Roman Museum of Mérida, and the elevation of the photographer’s role as an artistic mediator in an era of growing architectural media presence.
