Ernő Goldfinger

Ernő Goldfinger (1902–1987) was a Hungarian-British architect celebrated and controversial in equal measure, known for his powerful Brutalist housing towers in London — particularly Balfron Tower and Trellick Tower — which have since become cult objects of 20th-century architectural heritage. Goldfinger’s work represents the ambitions and contradictions of post-war social housing and the Brutalist movement’s faith in monumental structure as a vehicle for social housing reform.
