Ricardo Porro (1925–2014) was a Cuban architect renowned for his visionary and expressive designs that combined modernist principles with strong cultural and symbolic references to Cuban identity. Best known for co-designing the National Art Schools of Havana in the early 1960s, Porro’s work fused organic forms, brick and terracotta construction, and sensual, almost sculptural spaces that embodied both Afro-Cuban heritage and revolutionary ideals. His career, however, was marked by exile after political shifts in Cuba, leading him to continue his practice in Europe, where he remained a distinctive voice in 20th-century architecture.
