When Oleksandr Kostrikov first proposed covering an entire California fireplace in microcement, his clients hesitated. A seamless, stone-like surface without a single grout line was new to them. But once completed, the living room became one of their favorite spaces: a sculptural centerpiece that feels both modern and timeless.
That scene plays out often in Kostrikov’s work. Across Orange County and Los Angeles, the Ukrainian-born artist and entrepreneur is shaping a new aesthetic in U.S. interiors through fluted textures and his innovative approaches to microcement, responding to a demand for authenticity, tactility, and creativity.
These materials aren’t about decoration. They’re about creating an atmosphere people can feel.

Why Fluted Walls Are Everywhere
Fluted textures, sometimes referred to as ribbed or ridged finishes, have a rich history. Ancient Greek and Roman architects carved flutes into stone columns to add rhythm and elegance. In contemporary interiors, the idea is reborn in walls, panels, and furniture.
Designers value fluted walls because they sit at the intersection of minimalism and richness. Flat drywall can feel sterile, while heavy ornamentation can overwhelm. Fluting introduces quiet movement, subtle shadows, and a tactile quality that makes people want to reach out and touch the wall.
In Los Angeles spas and boutiques, fluted surfaces are used to create cocoons of calm. At home, they add depth without clutter. The light changes them every hour of the day.
– Oleksandr Kostrikov
He has also developed his own 3D tools for creating fluted and ridged textures. Thanks to these innovations, U.S. designers and contractors now have access to relief techniques that were previously harder to achieve and less widely available.
Microcement: Seamless Surfaces for Modern Life

If fluting is about rhythm, microcement is about continuity. This mineral-based finish, only a few millimeters thick, can be applied to cover drywall, tile, wood, or concrete. It creates seamless surfaces that flow across walls, floors, and even ceilings.
Clients are amazed when they realize a bathroom can be done without a single tile joint. It feels calm, clean, and whole.
– Oleksandr Kostrikov
Microcement is quickly becoming a cornerstone of modern interiors. Its versatility and durability make it a choice not only for bathrooms and fireplaces but also for kitchens, floors, and even furniture. With the application techniques Kostrikov developed, the material now sets a new level of aesthetics and functionality in American homes and public spaces.
A New Aesthetic in the U.S.
American interiors are actively evolving, as designers and clients increasingly seek tactile and authentic solutions. Kostrikov’s work plays a visible role in this shift: projects with fluted textures and seamless microcement are becoming benchmarks for new designs across California.
His Instagram account, followed by designers and contractors across different countries, reflects a growing curiosity about these finishes. Many U.S. professionals engage with his projects to learn how these materials work in practice.
People are ready. They want quality and unique solutions that make spaces feel alive.
– Oleksandr Kostrikov
In one Orange County residence, Kostrikov’s team utilized microcement to transform a plain living room into a sculptural space that feels more like a carved piece than a constructed one. In a Los Angeles spa, fluted panels replaced wallpaper, creating softer acoustics and a calming, minimalist atmosphere.
Merging Craft and Technology

Kostrikov’s path to becoming a leader in decorative surfaces is unusual. Born in Kherson, Ukraine, he became a father at the age of sixteen. Supporting his family motivated him to master trades such as plastering, painting, and tiling. Over time, his skill turned into artistry. His development in the field began in 2006, eventually leading to the opening of two showrooms and, in 2017, the launch of Dekos Style, an innovative space that blends retail with education.
When war forced him to leave Ukraine, he relocated to Italy, where the San Marco brand provided his family with temporary housing: a gesture of support during a difficult period. He soon moved on to Spain, where he helped a former client establish a construction business, and later to Romania, where he collaborated closely with San Marco on opening a new showroom and training local craftsmen. In 2023, he settled in California, founding Kostrikov Art LLC, a general contracting company focused on high-end decorative solutions.
After months of prototyping, Flutomania sold its first tools in June 2025 and was formally incorporated soon after. What began as sketches and 3D prints in his garage quickly turned into a company attracting orders from across the U.S. and abroad.
With Flutomania, our goal was to give artisans precise tools to explore texture in new ways.

Today, Flutomania’s products are shipped worldwide, from the U.S. and Canada to Europe and Australia. By combining digital fabrication with the human hand, Kostrikov is reshaping how artisans approach decorative walls.
The Psychology of Texture
Interior design is not just about how a space looks: it’s about how it feels. Research in environmental psychology suggests that textured surfaces increase comfort and engagement, while seamless finishes reduce visual clutter, making rooms appear larger and more calming.
Kostrikov sees the same effect in his projects.
When clients step into a microcement room, they may not know exactly why it feels different. But they feel calmer, more grounded. That’s the power of texture.
– Oleksandr Kostrikov
Luxury hotels, wellness spaces, and high-end homes increasingly use fluted walls and microcement for this reason. These surfaces don’t just decorate a room: they shape the entire experience of being in it.
Sustainability at the Core
Today’s clients also demand sustainable design solutions, and here both fluted walls and microcement deliver.
Microcement can refinish existing tile, wood, or concrete without demolition, reducing waste and extending the life of materials. Fluted textures, created with plaster, putty, or decorative materials, can also be refinished and reused. Through trial and error, Kostrikov refined a mix that worked seamlessly with his Flutomania tools: an authorial method that set a higher bar for the trade.
In California, sustainability isn’t optional: it’s part of every project conversation. These materials give us options that are beautiful and responsible.

Resilience in Life and Work

Kostrikov’s professional story mirrors the qualities of his materials: resilient, adaptive, and transformative. Starting as a teenage tradesman in Ukraine, he built his reputation through persistence and creativity. War destroyed his showroom and company, but he carried his expertise to Europe and eventually the U.S., where he has completed over a hundred projects in less than two years.
“Love Your Craft,” his motto, is more than branding. It reflects a lifetime of turning challenges into opportunities and craft into art.
Looking Ahead
For Kostrikov, fluted walls and microcement are not passing fads. They are long-term solutions for modern design, meeting demands for authenticity, tactility, and sustainability.
Flutomania has already developed a dedicated line of tools under the Meoded brand, currently available in its Los Angeles flagship showroom. Expansion into Meoded’s network of more than 277 dealers in the U.S., Canada, and Australia is planned, and Kostrikov recently hosted a master class for 40 craftsmen to demonstrate the tools in practice. Dealer inquiries are now coming not only from across the U.S., but also from Australia, Canada, and Italy.
In every project, we’re not just finishing a wall. We’re shaping how people live in that space.
– Oleksandr Kostrikov
Conclusion
Interior design today is less about decoration and more about creating experiences. Fluted walls and microcement capture that evolution perfectly. They bring together minimalism and richness, while showing how tradition can adapt to innovation.
Through his companies, Kostrikov Art LLC and Flutomania Inc., Oleksandr is helping lead this shift in the U.S.: realized interiors with fluted textures and seamless microcement are setting new standards of clarity, tactility, and durability.
In a design world seeking authenticity and sustainability, fluted walls and microcement are more than just trends. They are the future. And voices like Kostrikov’s are helping to build it.
