In Shanghai, a metropolis that thrives on its contrasts between the contemporary and the traditional, the AVVENN retail space was conceptualized and brought to life by the design firm Time To Gather under the leadership of chief designer Xue Fei and their team. Interplay of Light and Texture: Inside AVVENN’s Innovative Space
Located on Xinle Road, the AVVENN store spans 126 square meters. This project is characterized by an embrace of simplicity and a thoughtful consideration of space, much in the vein of how one approaches the craft of clothing design—beginning with the fundamental building block of pattern paper.
The architectural form adopts an L-shape, eschewing conventional retail space design in favor of a layout that promotes an interplay of contradiction and coexistence. This is a reflection of the AVVENN brand itself, which stands at the intersection of artistic aesthetics and avant-garde design principles. The use of natural stone and metal in the construction speaks to a desire for a textured authenticity, where the hand-aged materials convey a narrative of harmony and warmth amidst the urban landscape.
Inside, the design transcends mere commercial intent to explore the scale of creativity through its structural choices. The arch-shaped ceiling and the precise arrangement of slab structures draw inspiration from the freedom and fluidity of pattern paper, setting a stage where light and shadow, texture, and form coalesce to create a dynamic environment. The interior is a realm where texture serves as the emotional core, with hand-carved wormhole stone walls and carefully selected materials creating a symphony of rugged elegance and delicate nuance.
The concept of “pattern paper” extends beyond a mere motif to infuse the space with the limitless potential of creativity and precision. It is here, within these walls, that the dialogue between space and the individual unfolds—a conversation articulated through the meticulous arrangement of display systems, the thoughtful integration of lighting, and the adaptive functionality of the space itself.
At its core, AVVENN is a celebration of the pioneering spirit, a space where the harmony of design and functionality seeks to inspire and engage. In this project, the meticulous attention to detail, the blend of textures and materials, and the integration of space and light converge to create an atmosphere of innovation and introspection.
