Since 2010, the A’ Design Award & Competition recognize, reward, and promote the very best of design. It was developed as a part of a Ph.D. thesis in the Politecnico di Milano as a modern interpretation of the design competitions that were held before the digital age. During this time, it has become one of the most prestigious design competitions with a wide range of design categories (100+!), including architecture, furniture, homewares, interiors, and others.
The ultimate purpose of the award is to highlight participating designs and to provide designers with publicity and recognition through A’ Design Award. ArchEyes is set to announce the winners of the 2021 edition with a unique feature on May 1.

- Designer: Tetsuya Matsumoto
- Winner Category: 2019 – 2020, Platinum A’ Architecture, Building, and Structure Design Award Winner
- Inspiration: The modern wedding ceremonies in Japan inspired the design for the Cloud of Luster. These are all about the lightness, the brightness, and the smooth transition towards a happy future family life. The lines needed to be naturally curvy, and the space required to be open to receive as much light as possible. The columns needed to feel official as the ceremony is taking place and yet be as smooth and glamorous to spread the happiness of the moment.

- Inspiration: Since China has developed from agricultural civilization to industrial civilization, history never goes back. The Chinese peaceful and indifferent life aesthetics and faith for the integration of nature and humans are challenged and neglected. We do not deny development, but China needs to regain attention to its own culture at this stage.

- Designer: Xiaobing Yao
- Winner Category: 2019 – 2020, Platinum A’ Interior Space and Exhibition Design Award Winner

The temperament of the space.
Iris Lamp by Max Kampa
- Designer: Max Alan Kampa
- Winner Category: 2019 – 2020, Platinum A’ Lighting Products and Lighting Projects Design Award Winner
- Inspiration: The development of this project was motivated by the desire to create a product that was beyond a luminous sculpture. For this project, the conceptual inspiration in aesthetic terms is in the background and serves as a support for a functional lighting system. Creating a light control system was the inspiration for this project.
Poise – Adjustable Table Lamp
- Designer: Poise | Dabi Robert
- Winner Category: 2019 – 2020, Platinum A’ Lighting Products and Lighting Projects Design Award Winner
- Inspiration: Minimal, contemporary, and flexible are often used terms in my design language. My lamp concepts involve a certain amount of interaction to modify the way light is perceived. This should encourage curiosity and human interaction with the light source, instead of just putting it somewhere to rest. I strive for a deeper relationship with the interior product.
Sfumato – Shelving System
- Designer: Nedim Mutevelic
- Winner Category: 2019 – 2020, Platinum A’ Decorative Items and Homeware Design Award Winner
- Inspiration: Scaled and stylized, visually-compelling reflection of the metropolis for contemporary indoor spaces. Stable and hard on the bottom, blurred and soft on top, continuous, and endless horizontally. The dynamic structure with various heights, depths, and transparencies, creates apartments with different atmospheres, required by Sfumato residents – various everyday objects.
Catzz – Cat Bed
- Designer: Mirko Vujicic

Distinct geometry in my cat facial features guided the form of design, whereas her movement and behavior inspired the interactive aspect. The material was chosen to fit the cat’s needs for a warm and snugly environment, which felt provides. Knowing that cats are always on the lookout for the perfect hiding and resting spot and that their preferences vary, it was important for me to provide the possibility for adaptation.” – Mirko Vujicic
